2. Have Fun at Smelt Sands State Recreation Site
This isn’t your typical sandy beach—it’s a dramatic, rocky coastline that serves up some epic Pacific views.
There are a few picnic tables and informational signs scattered around, but the real highlight is the 804 Trail that runs through it. You’ll see folks walking, jogging, and biking while waves crash against the rugged shoreline.

It’s a great place to stop and watch the surf or take a stroll with a backdrop that looks straight out of a travel magazine. If you’re lucky, you might even catch a few tide pools tucked between the rocks.
3. Have a Quick Stop at Yachats State Recreation Area
Right in town, this easy-to-access state recreation area has a little bit of everything: a beach, ocean views, picnic tables, restrooms, and a small viewing platform where you can watch the waves roll in.

It’s not massive, but it makes a great quick stop or picnic spot.
4. Stroll at Yachats Ocean Road State Natural Site
For a mellow beach walk and quiet vibes, head to this stretch of coast just outside town.
The natural site includes a short road that runs along the edge of the ocean, with plenty of spots to pull over and explore.

It’s more of a drive-and-walk combo, with lots of little coves, beaches, and tide-washed rocks to check out.
There’s not much in terms of facilities, but it’s a perfect place to get out of the car and wander. It’s peaceful, easygoing, and another slice of that classic Oregon Coast magic.

It’s a great place to picnic, explore tide pools, or just chill with a coffee and stare at the waves. There are a few pull-offs with trails leading to the water and benches for ocean viewing.

What makes this spot extra special is the feeling of seclusion—you’re close to the highway, but it feels worlds away. Bring a jacket (the wind is real), and take your time enjoying this lesser-known scenic stop.
6. Check Out Yachats Brewing + Farmstore
Even though it was closed when we rolled through, this place is high on our must-return list.
