California’s sunflower fields already peaked. Oregon and Washington’s are just getting started.
If you were waiting for the classic California sunflower shot, you waited too long. Yolo County’s famous rows near Davis and Woodland peak in late June and early July, and by now most of those fields are sunburned, bowed over, and done for the year. Oregon and Washington, on the other hand, are just getting started.
Both states run their sunflower season deeper into late summer, which means there’s still a real window to walk into a field this tall and gold without a plane ticket to Kansas.

Oregon: Bella Organic Farm, Sauvie Island
We’ve picked berries at the u-pick farms on Sauvie Island more times than we can count, and Bella Organic’s sunflower field has become the late-summer version of that same habit. It opens August 8 and runs daily through September 14, 2026, from 9am to 5pm.

Admission is $10 and includes two stems to take home; extra stems run $3-5 apiece if you want more than a couple for the kitchen table. It’s on Sauvie Island, about 20 minutes from downtown Portland, so it’s an easy add-on to a farm store run or a Wapato Loop walk.
Staying overnight instead of doing it as a day trip? book a room in Portland and make a weekend of the whole island.
Washington: Stocker Farms, Snohomish
Stocker Farms runs its sunflower fields on weekends through September 24, 2026, at its Snohomish location — one of the longer windows of any field we found this year. The rows sit against the Cascade foothills, so you’re getting mountains in the background along with the flowers.
Snohomish leans into its small farm-town charm hard, so plan on stretching the trip into a full afternoon among produce stands and antique shops on Snohomish’s main drag. If you’re coming from Seattle and want to skip the drive home, grab a hotel and turn it into an overnight.
California: worth knowing, not worth the drive right now
Yolo County’s sunflowers — the ones that show up on every “best of California” list — bloom mid-June through mid-July on private farmland near Davis, Winters, and Woodland. By August, the heads are dried out and drooping, so this isn’t the month to make the trip.
Worth remembering for next year: those fields are working farmland, not a public attraction, so roadside viewing only unless a farm specifically invites you in.
The window is short everywhere
Sunflowers only hold their peak for three to four weeks no matter which state you’re in, and weather can push that earlier or later. If Oregon or Washington is on your radar this month, don’t sit on it — check the farm’s page the week you’re planning to go, since bloom windows shift with the weather every year.
Trip tips: grab a rental car to get between farms if you’re flying in for the weekend.
