Munra Falls and bridge

It’s a mellow, peaceful start and a great warm-up, especially if you’re hiking with kids or just waking up. About a quarter-mile in, you’ll pass Munra Falls—a smaller cascade right off the trail that makes a pretty stop before the incline starts.

After Munra, the trail narrows and becomes a bit more rugged, with some rocky terrain and a few mild ups and downs.

Next Part of The Trail:

You’ll reach a fork that creates a small loop—take the left fork if you want the slightly more challenging route along the cliffside with elevated views, or stick to the right for a flatter, creekside walk.

The trails rejoin shortly after a couple of wooden bridges.

The entire way is shaded and scenic, with the creek tumbling alongside you and moss-covered rock walls rising on either side. It’s the kind of trail where you’ll stop more than once to snap a photo or just take in the view.

The Payoff: Wahclella Falls

At the end of the trail, you’ll emerge into a dramatic gorge with vertical cliffs and the roar of Wahclella Falls ahead.

Depending on the time of year and water flow, it can be a powerful double or even triple-tier waterfall crashing into a rocky pool. The cliffs around it are massive, the mist cools the air, and the scenery feels tucked away and wild.

There’s space to sit, take a break, or just zone out to the sound of the water before turning back the way you came. If you want to skip the loop and keep it simple, just head back along the same route.

Tips for Visiting

  • Get there early—the parking lot fills quickly, even on weekdays
  • Wear good shoes—the trail is mostly easy but does include rocky sections and narrow spots with drop-offs
  • Bring water—the trail is shaded but still a bit humid in warm weather
  • Loop or out-and-back? Choose your route at the fork based on your comfort. The right side is easier, the left is more scenic
  • Expect crowds—but don’t let that stop you. It’s popular because it’s that good
