Ballard has a much more relaxed vibe with great food, breweries, and local shops—without the constant crowds. It feels more like a place people actually hang out, not just pass through.
If you want a better Seattle experience, this is it.
3. Cannon Beach Midday, Oregon → Go at Sunrise or Try Pacific City
Cannon Beach itself isn’t overrated—the timing is.
Midday crowds can take away from the experience, especially during peak season. If you go early in the morning or later in the evening, it’s a completely different place.
Or, head to Pacific City for a similar coastal vibe with fewer people and a more laid-back feel.
4. Portland’s Voodoo Doughnut → Go to Literally Any Local Bakery
The line alone should be your first clue.
Voodoo Doughnut is more about the novelty than the quality. The doughnuts are fine, but not worth the wait when Portland has so many better options.
Skip the hype and check out a smaller local bakery instead—you’ll get better food and a better experience.
5. Space Needle, Washington → Go to Kerry Park Instead
The Space Needle is iconic, but it’s expensive and crowded for what you get.
Kerry Park gives you one of the best views of Seattle—including the Space Needle—with zero cost and way less hassle. It’s a quick stop with a huge payoff.
Honestly, it’s the better experience.
6. Ocean Shores, Washington → Go to Ruby Beach Instead
Ocean Shores feels more developed and less like the rugged PNW coastline people come for.
Ruby Beach, on the other hand, delivers that raw, dramatic coastal experience—sea stacks, driftwood, and a more natural feel overall.
If you’re choosing between the two, Ruby Beach wins every time.
7. Leavenworth During Peak Festivals → Go in Shoulder Season
Leavenworth is fun, but during major festivals, it can feel packed and a bit overwhelming.
Visit during the shoulder season instead. You’ll still get the charm, the scenery, and the experience—just without the crowds.
Timing makes a huge difference here.
