1. Wander the Shores of Neskowin Beach

Neskowin Beach is the star of the show here, with soft sand, wide open views, and way fewer tourists than you’d expect for a spot this beautiful.

It’s perfect for a morning walk, sunset stroll, or full-blown lazy beach day. You’ll have Proposal Rock looming offshore to the south and long stretches of uncrowded shoreline heading north.

There’s plenty of space to spread out, build a sandcastle, or read a book without someone kicking sand in your face. Bring a blanket and snacks and call it a day.

2. Cross the Stream to See the Ghost Forest

Tucked at the far south end of Neskowin Beach is one of the area’s most unique sights—the Ghost Forest.

This cluster of ancient tree stumps was preserved by a massive natural event (likely a tsunami or earthquake), then buried under the sand for centuries before being revealed again in recent decades.

You’ll need to cross a shallow stream to get there (yes, it’s cold!), and only at low tide. The window is short, so check conditions before heading out. Once you’re there, it feels eerie and otherworldly—in the best way.

3. Climb Around Proposal Rock

Proposal Rock is the massive sea stack sitting just offshore at Neskowin Beach—and it’s not just for admiring from a distance.

When the tide is low, you can walk right up to it and explore the base. Depending on conditions, you may even be able to scramble partway around it for a new angle of the beach and surrounding cliffs.

It’s named after a legend of a proposal that happened there (surprise!), but today it’s more of a fun little side adventure—just be mindful of tides and slick rocks if you’re exploring.

4. Take in the Views at Nestucca Bay National Wildlife Refuge

Just a short drive from town, this refuge is an underrated gem. There’s a paved trail leading up to a sweeping overlook where you can see two rivers meet and stretch out toward the Pacific.

When you visit in late spring or summer, the hills are covered in wildflowers and you might spot some butterflies fluttering around conservation tents.

Birders will love this spot for its variety of species, and casual visitors will appreciate the peaceful trails and stunning views from the viewing deck. It’s an easy stop with a big payoff.

5. Hit Up the Neskowin Farmers Market

From late May through early October, this small but mighty market pops up every Saturday near the town center. You’ll find fresh produce, baked goods, handmade soaps, and sometimes live music, all in a friendly, beachy setting.

It’s a great excuse to get out, grab a snack, and support local makers. Even if you’re just browsing, the vibe is super laid-back and welcoming. Definitely worth a stop if your visit lines up with market day.

Where to Go Next: Lincoln City & Pacific City

Once you’ve soaked up all that quiet coastal goodness in Neskowin, you’ve got two great next stops just a short drive away.

Lincoln City is just 15 minutes south and has more of a classic beach-town vibe—think outlet malls, glass-blowing studios, and long sandy beaches with driftwood for days.

If you’re feeling lucky, keep an eye out for the famous hidden glass floats they stash along the beach year-round. Hike up to God’s Thumb for epic views.

Two surfers surfing wave in ocean in front of large rock island in Pacific City, Oregon

Pacific City, about 25 minutes north, is perfect if you’re into dramatic views and craft beer. You can watch surfers at Cape Kiwanda and hike up the massive sand dune for a killer ocean view.

Both make excellent add-ons to a Neskowin visit—just pick your vibe and hit the road!

We hope this helped you plan your trip to Neskowin, Oregon!
