Memorial Day weekend campsites open November 28 in Oregon and California, and Washington’s opened in August
The best campsite for Memorial Day weekend 2027 is already spoken for in one state, because its booking window opened three months before the others. Washington lets you book nine months out, while Oregon and California stop at six.
That puts the big date on Saturday, November 28, the weekend after Thanksgiving. If you want to arrive Friday, May 28, that’s the day Oregon and California state park sites go live for your first night.

Washington: nine months, so August already came and went
Washington State Parks says campsite reservations can be made up to nine months in advance of the first date of your trip. Count back from May 28 and you land on August 28, 2026, which means the first wave of holiday-weekend bookings is already done.

Oregon: six months, and the clock hits November 28
Oregon State Parks takes reservations up to six months in advance. Most campsites, plus all the cabins and yurts, need a reservation, so showing up and hoping isn’t much of a plan for a holiday weekend.

California: six months to the day, at 8 a.m.
California is the most precise of the three. ReserveCalifornia lets you reserve six months to the day before your arrival, and each new date opens at 8 a.m. Pacific, according to the state’s own reservation FAQ.
Set an alarm for 7:55 a.m. on November 28 and treat it like a concert ticket drop. Because the window counts from your first night, a Thursday arrival on May 27 opens a day earlier, on November 27.
The cheat sheet
For a Friday, May 28 arrival: Washington opened August 28, Oregon opens November 28, and California opens November 28 at 8 a.m. Pacific. Shifting your trip by even a few days shifts every one of those dates with it.
The same math works for any trip, not just Memorial Day. As of today, the furthest-out night you can book in Oregon or California is April 20, 2027, and Washington’s reaches into July.
